Injectable Arthritis Medication Can Make All the Difference

In the U.S, it’s estimated that 24 percent of all adults (58.5 million people) struggle with arthritis. It’s the #1 cause of work disability, with average lost earnings and medical care costs reaching $303.5 billion. The good news is that there are effective ways to treat arthritis that can give you your mobility and life back. Here at Seaside Rheumatology and Wellness Center, Dr. Peter Lloyd and his team have many years of experience helping patients with arthritis find relief and take back control of their lives.
Joint Injection Arthritis Treatment
Joint injections are a very effective arthritis treatment we use at the Seaside Rheumatology and Wellness Center. In this procedure, Dr. Lloyd or a team member will take a small hypodermic needle and insert it into the joint space where various effective therapeutic medicines can be introduced into your system capable of relieving pain and reducing inflammation.
These injections can treat chronic and acute pain allowing physical therapy and personalized exercise programs to work more effectively, helping patients regain range of motion and strength with much less discomfort.
All injections are conducted using a strict aseptic technique under ultrasound guidance. We use ultrasound to make the procedure less painful and more accurate. Common ailments in which joint injections can alleviate discomfort include:
- Bursitis
- Trigger finger
- Osteoarthritis
- deQeurvains
- Gout (pseudogout, crystal arthritis)
- Tendonitis
- Inflammatory arthritis (psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.)
- Neuritis
Joints we inject with this therapy include the pelvis, spine, knees, hips, ankles, shoulders, toes, fingers, wrists, and elbows.
We should note, there are rare contradictions and complications associated with these procedures, which we go over in full detail during your visit.
Here is a list of the therapies we offer at the Seaside Rheumatology and Wellness Center:
- Euflexxa
- Steroid injections
- Orthovisc
- Synvisc
- Traumeel and Zeel (natural alternatives)
Joint Aspiration Arthritic Treatment
We also offer an arthritic treatment called joint aspiration, in which we use a small hypodermic needle and insert it into a joint space to get a sample of your synovial fluid for in-depth analysis. The fluid is sent to a laboratory for evaluation, where they search for signs of inflammatory cells, infection, calcium crystals, uric acid crystals, blood, or fat globules.
As mentioned earlier, all injection procedures are conducted using a strict aseptic technique and ultrasound guidance to ensure minimum discomfort. The aseptic we use for all procedures is lidocaine which helps reduce pains, and ultrasound gives us a precise image of the target area, allowing Dr. Lloyd to avoid puncturing areas that are inflamed or more tender. Once your fluid samples are analyzed, Dr. Lloyd will diagnose and draw out a detailed treatment plan.
